Alton Gilbert

Alton Cameron Gilbert, 77, of Hope Mills, North Carolina died Sunday October 30. 2016 in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He was born in Robeson County, NC August 11, 1939 to the late John Northop and Daisy Leola Cashwell Gilbert. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served with USARSEVEN/USAREUR Service Battery, 2d Howitzer Battalion(155mm), 37th Artillery in Dachau, Germany in 1963 and 1964. Upon leaving the Army he became a farmer. He leaves to cherish his memory his brother, Billy Cashwell and his wife Gail; niece, Judy Arrington and her husband Roy; nephew, Horace Gilbert and his wife Donna; and his good friend Jr. Blount. A memorial service is scheduled for Monday November 7, 2016 at 4:00 PM in McNeill Mackie Funeral Home Chapel, 319 W. Broad Street, St. Pauls, NC. with the Reverend James F. Blount, III officiating. A private burial will follow at a later date. Arrangements by McNeill Mackie Funeral Home of St. Pauls.
