Daniel Pender

It is with great sadness that the family of Daniel Stacy Pender, 79, announced his sudden passing Saturday, July 8, 2017. Daniel is preceeded in death by his parents, Ottie and Ruby Pender, brother, Edward, and sisters, Sally and Mary Louise. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Annabel (Lee) Pender of the home; daughters, Judith Pender of Parkton, Laurie Pender of Hope Mills, and Mitzie (Pender) Fisk and son Chris Fisk, of Fayetteville. Grandchildren Michael and Alyssa Keefer of St.Pauls, Brittany Fisk of Fayetteville, Savannah and James Horner of Eagle River, Alaska and great grandchildren, Daniel Keefer and Harley Horner, who were the lights of his life. Also surviving are his siblings James Pender of Hope Mills, Judy Lewis of Eros, Louisiana, and Louis Pender, of Hope Mills. Born in Robeson county on February 7, 1938, Daniel was the second oldest of seven children. In his early years, Daniel left school very young to work on the farm to help support his family. In 1956, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he was a Sergeant, stationed in Puerto Rico. After serving with the Marines, Daniel spent the rest of career in the textile industry until he retired. Daniel met Annabel in 1959, knowing it was love at first sight, they eloped shortly after their first date and have been happily together ever since. They raised their beautiful family in a Christian home with strong values and created the life they could call “their perfect”. Dan who was known by many names Daniel, Stacy, Papa, Uncle Stacy, Stan, and his newest name “Pa” was a Godly man who had a passion for family, hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors. For years he spent his winters in the woods, with Annabel, his grandson Michael, family, and the multitude of friends he made over the years. As he would say “God bless you in Jesus’ name I pray, amen.” A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday July 22, 2017, at 4:00 PM at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home in St.Pauls, with a visitation one hour prior, from 3-4:00 PM followed by graveside burial. Arrangements by McNeill Mackie Funeral Home of St. Pauls.

My deepest sympathies with Mr. Dan's family. I knew him through the hunting club in White Oak from going with my grandpa, Johnnie Reeves. I always thought a lot of Mr. Dan. He was a great man.

Mrs. Anabel, first and foremost, my heart is so heavy for the loss of your Dear Husband Mr. Daniel. He was most definitely ONE of a kind. He always had a loving smile and a warm hug for me anytime I needed one. He was such a gentleman, ever so charismatic and thoughtful. I remember conversations that we had where he would listen to my pleas for help and would provide an intelligent, insightful suggestion and prayer for me to help me through my struggles. He truly listened and felt right along with me the anguish and pain. But he always followed up with me, How are you Bnita? Are things better for you, sweet Lady? I would tell him, "Yes" thanks to you and the Good Lord above, his response, God bless you in Jesus name I pray, Amen., just as Laurie said in his obituary announcement. I know I probably shouldn't have laid my burdens on him, but he never stopped me. Neither have you or Y'all's daughter, Laurie. You and Mr. Daniel have done great raising your three WONDERFUL daughters. As you know I'm very close to Laurie, so I learned about you and Mr. Daniel way before I had the experience to grow my own friendship with the both of you. Mrs. Annabel, I will continue to pray for you and all the "Penders", because I know it will be hard. your family has NEVER let me down in my times of need, so I most certainly will not let you down in yours. I Love you Dearly Mrs. Annabel. Godspeed to you and I give all the Glory to God, that he will bring Y'all through your loss. "Penders", God Bless and watch over you, Amen!

Your entire family showed me what life was all about before I could live it. Thank you I express my apologies for not keeping up with all of you until recent. A lot of it was know by God that I needed to hear your dads encouraging messages to me. He helped more than he knew. I am so sorry, for the loss, and when I can see you Ms. Annabel let me know, I would love to see you again.
