Edna Hall

December 4, 1919 — February 17, 2015

Mrs. Edna Cox Hall, 95, of St. Pauls, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2015. The oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Lee and Lula Allen Cox, Edna was born on December 4, 1919 in Lee County, NC. In her early years, she was a proud member of Center United Methodist Church in Sanford. After attending Elon College, where she studied business, she married the love of her life, Mr. Alvy Gray Hall, of Carthage, which began their 55-year adventure together. Edna and family chose to make their home in St. Pauls, a town and community to which she remained fiercely loyal. She worked alongside her husband and later her children to build their successful business, A.G.Hall, Inc, which served St. Pauls for nearly 58 years. Edna became a dedicated member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church, where she could be found in the choir most every Sunday. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, and a generous friend to many. Edna will be remembered for her warmth, humor, grace, and resilience. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her son, Mr. Stephen Hall; her daughter, Mrs. Jane Hall Hylton; sister, Mrs. Marie Rosser; and brother, Mr. Paul Cox. Edna is survived by her grandson, Mr. Christopher Hall and his fiancee Ms. Samantha Adamson; granddaughter, Dr. Julie Hylton and her husband Dr. Christopher Horne; two great-grandchildren, Morgan Hall and Jordan Hall; sisters, Mrs. Elsie Cameron, Mrs. Helen Maddox, and Mrs. Mae Watson; brother Mr. Dale Cox; and son-in-law, Mr. Robert Hylton. The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 24, 2015 from 6-8 pm at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home of St. Pauls.  A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday February 25, 2015 at St. Pauls United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Skipper officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Faith cemetery in Lumberton, NC. The family would like to express its deepest appreciation to devoted caregivers, Mrs. Kitty Nance and Mrs. Ashley Tew, and to Community Home Care and Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Pauls United Methodist Church, 519 N. Wilkinson Drive, St. Pauls, NC 28384, or to a charity of one’s choice.
