Guillermo Caballero

Guillermo “Chilly” Caballero Jr., 59, of Fayetteville NC, passed away Sunday, May 24th, 2020.

He was born on July 26th, 1960 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, to the late Euricide Quiñones and Guillermo Caballero Sr, and later raised in New York City, NY, before finally settling down in Fayetteville, NC. His love for the latest tech gadgets/gizmos, comedy movies/tv shows, video games, and fashion, was second only to his unwavering love for family. His sense of humor, friendly demeanor, and non-judgmental nature made him someone you could confide in and trust. Most of all, as a person afflicted for years with chronic illnesses, Caballero was a fighter, and his example of staying strong and optimistic in the face of adversity is his greatest legacy.

He is survived by his wife Migdalia Caballero, son William David Caballero,  siblings Sammy Caballero, Luis Caballero, Evelyn Caballero, Evette Rodriguez, Ivan Rodriguez, Hermiño Rodriguez, Leticia Rodriguez, Ruthie Caballero, Mimi Caballero, mother-in-law Isolina Aponte, and step-mother Emerita Caballero. He was loved by many, including three sister-in-laws, three brother-in-laws, and countless loving nieces and nephews.

A family visitation is scheduled for Thursday May 28, 2020 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home of St. Pauls. A grave side funeral service will be held Friday May 29, 2020 at 12:00 noon at Oak Ridge Cemetery in St. Pauls. Arrangements by McNeill Mackie Funeral Home of St. Pauls.

To My dearest Tio Chilly,Tio I still cant believe youre gone But I find peace knowing youre no longer in pain... Youre the greatest example of a fighter cause you fought this battle til the end... You were like Superman to me cause you overcame every battle. Even at my lowest you never judged me but always gave me words of encouragement and for that youll always hold a special place in my heart... Im gonna miss cutting your hair and hearing your stories about me and David when we were young... Tio I love you so much. Thank you for being a great husband to my Aunt Milly and even greater father to my cousin... Tio til we meet again.... Love Your Nephew Jay

The many times weve gotten into trouble, the story and the fights is to many to tell. However, I know all that you had endure and now all that is done and behind you. Rest and joy awaits you now, peace and tranquility will be the new norm, my brother. Youll always, always have been with me when we were miles away, and certainly now knowing youre with mom. Love you Junior. Bear

I was lucky to meet Guillermo at his son Wills wedding in Puerto Rico. I remember after the wedding our entourage made its way to a salsa bar. I sat with Guillermo and we talked about all kinds of things including religion, music art and so much more. He was very kind to me and I had the feeling I was talking to an old friend. It was a truly beautiful night as our entourage made its way around the streets of Old San Juan. We were all very happy, some of us were struggling to smoke cigars and there were lots of jokes being cracked. Of course Guillermo was cracking us all up that night.
