Lula Brisson

May 7, 1918 — September 24, 2020

Lula Mamie Adcox Brisson age 102; gained her angel wings on September 24, 2020 at the home of her daughter; Doreatha Brisson Kinlaw and son in law; Donald Marley Kinlaw. She was born on May 7, 1918 in Gray’s Creek Township in Cumberland County, NC. She is the daughter of the late Augustus Lee Adcox and Bettie Jane Raynor Adcox. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Ferrell Brisson and two of their children; Louise Ferrell Brisson McWhirter and Glenn Lee Brisson, Sr. She married Paul Ferrell Brisson on June 21, 1936 in Dillon, SC. She was fortunate to be married for 50 years and raise a family, which was followed by decades of enjoying watching her extended family grow. She was a member of Bladen Union Baptist Church, where she was one of the first to be baptized in the new baptistery of the current church. She enjoyed her time as a youth Sunday School teacher for many years. She loved her family and was a loyal mother and grandmother and took care of so many over the years. She enjoyed sharing meals with loved ones—especially desserts. You could always find her wearing the color pink, so she always matched perfectly even as her vision declined. She enjoyed church hymns and knew the scripture from heart, which carried her through. She had a huge heart and embodied the fruits of the spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. She had a good memory and a knack for details and her quick wit made many smile over the years. Her family is forever grateful for the values she personified, the life she lived and modeled for all. She will be greatly missed.

She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Gwendolyn Leigh Brisson Guyton and Wendy Angela Brisson and grandsons Ronald William McWhirter and Richard Stephen McWhirter. Also deceased is her great grandson; Joshua Lee Brisson. She is survived by her daughter, Doreatha Brisson Kinlaw and husband Donald Marley Kinlaw of Lumberton. She is survived by eight grandchildren, Amber Jane Kinlaw Lewis, Hilary Dawn Kinlaw Leggette; Eddie Joe McWhirter, Marie Ann McWhirter Maccioli, Glenn Lee Brisson, Jr., Luis Terrell Brisson, Paul Ferrell Brisson and Jonathan Israel Brisson.  She also has nine great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.
