Sharon Dean

Sharon Gayle Odom Dean, of St. Pauls, died December 21, 2015. She was born January 5, 1938 in St. Pauls to the late Hoyt A. and Opal A. Odom. She went to St. Pauls Elementary and High Schools. She was married to David L. Dean, Sr. for 42 years, from August 8, 1952 until his death March 13, 2000. Sharon worked at St. Pauls Elementary School as Cafeteria Manager for 26 years, retiring in 1999. She, also, worked weekends and holidays during this time at The Fashion Shop in St. Pauls. She had two children, David L. Dean, Jr., who preceded her in death July 27, 1995, and a daughter, Sherrie Dean Stephenson who lives with her husband Glenn and 16 year old son, Joseph David Stephenson in Angier, NC. In addition to her parents, husand, and son, she was preceded in death by brothers Kenneth, Tommy and Albert Odom of St. Pauls. She is survived by her daughter Sherrie and family as well as brothers Ralph Odom and his wife Rebecca and Carey Odom and his wife Margaret of Charlotte. Family was always the most important thing in her life and she was a devoted wife and mother to her children. She, also, believed in helping those less fortunate than her family. Therefore, she was a life-long resident of St. Pauls and faithful member of St. Pauls Presbyterian Church for over 55 years. Sharon gave of her time and energy to any and all functions to raise funds to help those in need. Some say she was the first in the kitchen and the last to leave. She loved the Lord and will be missed by family and friends that knew her. The Dean, Odom and Stephenson families would like to extend a special "thank you" to Susan Inman, Ann Page, Joe Lyde, Ann Lyde, Jessica Dean, Jackie Dean, Stanley Dean and Pastor Sue Hudson and Presbyterian Church members, all of St. Pauls for helping their family in time of need. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday December 23, 2015 at 1:00 PM at St. Pauls Presbyterian Church, 228 N. Old Stage Road, St. Pauls, with a visitation scheduled at the Church one hour prior, from 12:00 noon - 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at the Dean Family Cemetery located on Dean Road, St. Pauls. Online condolences may be made to www.mcneillmackiefuneralhome.com In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Healthkeeperz Hospice, 4155 Fern Creek Dr., Suite 201, Fayetteville, NC 28314 or St. Pauls Presbyterian Church, PO Box 283, St. Pauls, NC 282384. Ralph, Just heard last night of the passing of Sharon. My deepest symphthy for your loss.Never missed seeing her on my trips to visit home with my Mom and Grandma and my brother, Bobby. Always looked on her as the sister I never had. All of you were like a second family to me. I know she will be greatly missed by all those who were touched by her smile and as always, the helping hand. May God carry her in the crook of his arm and give her everlasting peace and rest. Billy

So sorry to hear of SharonGayle's passing. I have good memories of her sweet disposition. I have fond memories, way back, when our families would gather together at Uncle Hoyt's for an Odom reunion. Great food as well as great times with our cousins. I know she and her unselfish ways will be missed by her family and community.

John & I are out of town and will not be able to attend Sharon Gayle's funeral service. She was a 'angel amongst' us always willing to help anyone in need. She dearly loved her family & was one of the best cooks ever & always had plenty of food to share. I will miss her smile & kind words. Sending love & hugs. Sarah Odom O'Brien
