Alpha Bass was born on October 3, 1927 and passed away September 20, 2024, surrounded by loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, and two of her sons, Jerry and Steve. She is survived by 8 remaining children: Ronald (Erin) and their three daughters, Sharon (James) and their three children, Deborah (Morris) and their two daughters, David and his daughter, Don (Kim) and his two daughters, James Benjamin and his three children, Timothy and his three sons, and Mary and her three children, along with many great grandchildren and a few great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Alpha Bass looked forward to every holiday and family gathering. Her home was often full of family members coming together to celebrate anything from Easter to just a good Sunday afternoon together. She enjoyed seeing her loved ones gathered together, and she spent a lot of time snuggling babies and reading books, such as The Pokey Little Puppy, to the younger kids.
Mrs. Bass supported her family with her bookkeeping job that she would eventually retire from. She continuously showed her family her hardworking and persevering nature in all that she did, but especially in the way she cared for others. She had a song or a rhyme for almost every occasion, and you could often find her in her kitchen singing something you couldn’t find on a radio. She would not stand for any rude or crass behavior, and would set someone straight with a stern look and her mouth in a firm line. Even when her hearing wasn’t always the best, she enjoyed being surrounded by the conversations that flowed from the people she loved just being in her presence.
Alpha Bass could name almost every plant, and she kept a beautiful and extensive garden for many years. She took great joy in making things thrive, something that extended to the people around her. She kept aloe plants in her house that could almost magically take away the pain of any scrapes, stings, and burns from anyone who was at her home.
She was an active and involved member of her church. She taught a Sunday School class for several decades, served on various committees, and spent much of her free time visiting shut-ins at their homes and nursing homes, as well as volunteering at the Gray’s Creek Christian Center until she was no longer able to do so. Her life is a testimony of love and service to all who knew her.
