Dosta Junior Locklear passed away on August 18th, 2025, at his home in Lumberton, N.C. at the graceful age of 78 years old. Dosta dedicated his work life to infrastructure construction. His respect for his career was a testament to his skill and passion for the field, concluding his retirement with Public Works of Pembroke.
Dosta was an escalating family man, a member of Evergreen Holiness Church - a stern father, a gentle Papa, and finally a great-papa of unconditional love and support. His love for holiness preaching, fishing/hunting, watching boxing, and any black/white western. But his love for the outdoors was only matched by the joy of his family loving one another while enjoying a meal together as one.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Verdie Lee Locklear of the home; two daughters, Elory Locklear and Dostaette Locklear Holden and husband, Anthony all of Pembroke; five grandchildren, Chelsie Holden, Carrisa Holden, Jacob Clark, Dosilyn Hammonds, and Lucan Hammonds; three great-grandchildren, Kendall Maynor, Kolston Oxendine, and Jacey Maynor; one sister, Susie Chavis of Pembroke, NC; many nieces and nephews, whom he all loved and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Valdosta and Elmer Locklear, one daughter, Becky Rose Locklear; one son, Jeremiah Junior Locklear; one granddaughter, Angel Locklear and one sister, Betty Lois Jacobs.
Dosta's legacy is not only in the life he built with his hands, but a heart that softened to embrace his family one generation at a time.
A special Thank You to Scotland Hospice for the kindness and respect for our family.
