Douglas Odell Wooten, Sr., 86, of Parkton, North Carolina died Sunday July 18, 2010 at Carroll S. Roberson Hospice Center in Fayetteville, NC. A native of Wilson, NC, he was born December 31, 1923 to the late William G. and Minnie Eva Whitmore Wooten. A World War II veteran, he was a Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps, serving with the 482nd Bombardment Squadron, participating the the European Air Offensive, the Eastern Mandates Campaign (the Marshall Islands), and the Western Pacific Campaign (the Marianas and the Palaus). He was manager of a welding supply company and attended Parkton Methodist Church. While working at Parnell's Hardware Store, he became known as "Ace". Mr. Wooten was predeceased in 1995 by his wife of 49 years, Rosalie Louise Daniel Wooten. He is survived by sons, William B. Wooten and his wife Debbie of Parkton and Douglas Odell Wooten, Jr.; brothers, Bill Wooten and his wife Elizabeth "Pinkie" Wooten of Aberdeen and Tommy Wooten and his wife Jane of Winston-Salem; and grandson, Matthew Odell Wooten of Parkton. Visitation will be at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home, 319 W. Broad Street, St. Pauls, NC Thursday July 22, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday July 23, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at Parkton United Methodist Church, Parkton, NC, with the Reverend Teresa Rutledge officiating. Burial will follow in Parkton Cemetery. The Wooten Family suggusts memorials be made to the Parkton UMC Building Fund, POB 88, Parkton, NC 28371 or the Parkton Rescue Squad, POB 268, Parkton, NC 28371.
