On Sunday, March 7, 2021, Ernest Sumner, loving husband, and father of two sons, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, passed away at the age of 93 in Ormond Beach, Florida. He was surrounded by family.
Ernest was born on August 30, 1927 in Tiff County, Georgia to Samuel and Nina Mae (Hogan) Sumner. On August 5, 1949, he married Marjorie Ann Inman and was a longtime resident of St Pauls, North Carolina, where they raised two sons, Jim and Don. Ernest served his country for 23 years as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, United States Army. He was a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He loved fishing, gardening, golfing, and restoring and showing classic cars. Ernest was preceded in death by his father, Samuel, his mother, Nina Mae and his brother, James. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Marjorie, his two sons, Jim and Don, his grandchildren Lauren, James, Mark, David and Jason, and his great-grandchildren, Christopher, Owen, Olivia, Marie and Jason, Jr. A Graveside Service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday April 10, 2021 in Oak Ridge Cemetery, St. Pauls. The family will receive friends for continued fellowship following the service at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
