James W. Budd, Jr (Jim) passed away after battling cancer on January 11, 2023 at the age of
75. He was born August 25, 1947 to James W. Budd, Sr (Wilton) and Emma Hagin Budd.
Jim grew up in Cumberland County and graduated from Grays Creek High School. He
served in the US AIr Force and was stationed at Ellsworh Air Force Base in Rapid City, South
Dakota where he obtained his private pilot’s license. After the Air Force, Jim worked for 40
years with the same airline, Piedmont Airlines that became US Airways. While married to his
wife, Annette, for 50 years, they created a home filled with love for their daughter, son, and
later son-in-law and two granddaughters. Always the farm boy and outdoorsman, Jim
enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and being on a tractor. He was supportive of his
children’s and granddaughters’ educations and activities, attending sporting events, recitals,
and concerts. In recent years Jim enjoyed fun times with family, especially his
granddaughters who he loved dearly.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sister Brenda Budd McMillan and daughter,
Heather Budd.
Jim is survived by his wife Annette Usher Budd, daughter Amy Budd
Patterson (Lee) of Fayetteville, NC, son Steven James Budd of Derwood, MD,
granddaughters Emma and Cara Patterson, sisters Mary Helen Budd Hall (Robin) of Bolivia,
NC, Diane Budd Atkinson (Andy) of Fayetteville, NC, aunt Barbara Lamm of Red Springs,
NC. He is also survived by many dear friends, nieces, nephews and in-laws. The family
would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Community Home Care and Hospice of
Lumberton and especially to nurses Deena, Michelle, Tasha and CNA Atrail.

Presbyterian Church, St. Pauls, NC, Grays Creek Fire Station #18, and the North Carolina
Wildlife Association.
