Joan John

Joan Hardesty John, 78, of St. Pauls, North Carolina died Thursday August 26, 2010 at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton. She was born in Little Washington, NC February 5, 1932 to the late William Robert and Bertha Currie Hardesty. She taught English and Latin at St. Pauls High School for 31 years, and was an active Life Member of Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church. Mrs. John began teaching Sunday School in 1957, a task she continued for over 50 years. She was, also, the first woman elected to serve as a Ruling Elder in the church. Mrs. John was preceeded in death by her husband Henry, daughter Marian E. John, sister Jessie Blue Longwith, and brother William Robert "Bobby" Hardesty.She is survived by her son Henry M. John and his wife Janet of Boca Raton, Florida. Visitation will be at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home Saturday August 28, 2010 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM with funeral services scheduled at Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church Sunday August 29, 2010 at 3:30 PM officiated by Reverend Archie Barringer and Reverend Michael McGehee.
