Laura Van Hook Wilson, 84, transitioned into eternal life on Friday, Nov 5, 2010 at the Church of God Home, Carlisle, PA with her daughter by her side, after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was born in Reidsville, NC the daughter of Samuel Tilton Van Hook and Eva Perkins Van Hook and was married on December 22, 1945 to Bernice Edward Wilson of Greenville, NC.
Laura was a graduate of Bethany High School, Fayetteville Technical Institute and obtained her North Carolina insurance license, which she used to assist her in managing her husband’s business when he died at the early age of 52. She was the matriarch of her family and an amazing mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend to the many residents of her hometown for over 60 years, St. Pauls, North Carolina.
Laura lived her life with passion and laughter, never meeting a stranger and always looking for a way to help those less fortunate than herself. She was a Master duplicate bridge player and especially enjoyed baking treats for her family, friends, and “shut-ins” and for her home church fellowships.
Surviving are her three children Larry T. Wilson and wife Judy of Raleigh, NC, Garry E. Wilson and wife Kathy of Wilson, NC and Ginger K. Wilson-Gines and husband Americo (Rick) of Carlisle, PA. In addition she is survived by her five grandchildren, Miranda Wilson, Jennifer Little, Hilary Wilson, Zane Wilson and Brad Gines and siblings Anne Gordon, Linda Pardue, Viola Lohrberg ,W. Edward Keen and Claude Ashby Keen. She was predeceased by siblings Charles T. Van Hook, Katie Van Hook Nagy and Helen Balassi.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday November 13 at 11:00 am at St. Pauls United Methodist Church, 406 W. Broad St., St. Pauls, North Carolina 28384. Family visitation will be on Friday, November 12
th
from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home, 319 W. Broad St., St. Pauls, NC.
