Fayetteville

Steven John Schultz, aged 64, of Fayetteville, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, June 15th, 2023.

Steve was born on Friday, May 1st, 1959, to Muriel and John Schultz in Upland, Pennsylvania. Steve was raised in Aston, Pennsylvania with his older sister, Deborah Bucci, who will always treasure the way an annoying little brother became a best friend for life.  Steve graduated from Sun Valley High School with awards in Extemporaneous Speech and Debate in 1977. Steve valued patriotism dearly and placed the utmost importance on serving his country. To act on these beliefs, he joined the Air Force where he served for seventeen years. During this time, he conducted himself with a sense of selflessness and a humble temperament that was admired by those who knew him.

After his military career, Steve earned his Bachelor’s in Safety Engineering. He spent almost thirty years working at Cape Fear Valley Hospital, where he was a well-known, respected presence at all corresponding facilities. Throughout his life, Steve enjoyed playing the trumpet. This hobby started in his high school marching band, lasted into his military career, and continued on in his local church.

Steve was a wonderful husband and loving father who enjoyed over thirty years of marriage to his wife Diane. Their marriage was built on the foundation of lasting friendship, devotion to Christ, and mutual trust in one another. During their marriage, Diane valued Steve’s quirky personality, unwavering loyalty and his ability to make her laugh in any situation. Steve loved spending quality time with his soulmate on cruises where the weather was sunny, and the water was clear.

Steve and Diane have two sons, Matthew and Nicholas Schultz. They will always remember the values Steve instilled in them, from leaving your campsite better than you found it to the profound truth that words matter. Steve also believed in raising his family in the Spirit of the Lord and following the example of Jesus. It was evident to see that Steve led by example in this respect and would always offer help to anyone in need.

Steve was predeceased by his parents, Muriel and John Schultz. He is survived by wife Diane Schultz, sons Matthew and Nicholas Schultz, daughter-in-law Allyson Schultz, mother and father in-law Joseph and Joanne Messina, sister Deborah Bucci,brother-in-law Mark Bucci, nephews Jason and Christopher Bucci, three maternal aunts and many cousins. He will also be remembered by close friends of the family, such as Carla Carson-Pierce and Monique, Woody Woodbury, Todd Lockamy, Brantley Jackson, Charles Kinlaw, Shelva Simmons, and Lynn and Craig Williams.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Migraine Foundation (americanmigrainefoundation.org).

The family will hold a memorial service at Cape Fear Valley Hospital Graduate building, room 3, located between Cancer Center and CVS on July 21st, 2023 at 12 pm.
