Carolyn Thompson Davis

Carolyn Thompson Davis

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Carolyn, our loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, on July16, 2022.

After an extended illness, she left us while sleeping peacefully at her residence.

Born in St.Pauls, NC, Carolyn’s father passed away at an early age.  Her mother raised Carolyn, her three sisters and one brother. Carolyn and Richard Davis were married on Oct.1 of 1965. Together they raised two children, Kim and DeeDee. She and Richard raised their girls to value family, education and hard work. After both girls entered elementary school, Carolyn returned to school herself, and received a Bachelor of Education degree from Pembroke State University. Later, Carolyn decided to further her education and returned to PSU where sheobtained her Masters in Education.

Teaching special education was Carolyn’s calling and she did so for 31 years in the Public Schools of Robeson County. She didall this and still managed to raise her girls, maintain her homeand cook a delicious southern meal every night. Carolyn cooked the best-fried chicken anyone will ever eat and her biscuits were legendary. She could do anything she set her mind to, and throughout her life she was involved in all of her girl’s activities. She loved playing bridge and belonged to the same bridge group for over 40 years. If Carolyn could be anywhere in the world, she would have said on the beaches of South Carolina. She could take her lounge chair and sit by the beach for hours on end. As long as she had a book and a Pepsi, she was happy.

Carolyn and Richard taught their girls to respect everyone, always use their manners and that nothing was more important than keeping your promises. Everything they did was for the betterment of their family. Their love and commitment to one another is the standard the girls continue to strive to achieve. Richard loved her with all his heart and soul and took exceptional care of her to the very last day.

Her grandson, Davis Turner, predeceased Carolyn. It is unclearwhich of them loved the other one more. Davis’ eyes would light up the minute he heard her voice and she cherished every moment they had together.

In addition to her husband, Richard and her two daughters, Kim and DeeDee, she leaves behind two son-in-laws, Mark Ward and Robert Turner. In addition, three grandchildren that in her eyes, could do no wrong, Joshua, Phillip and Emily. She spoiled them all rotten and would not have had it any other way. She also leaves her sister, Becky of St. Paul’s NC and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery on Monday, July 18, 2022 beginning at 11:00am.
